Email marketing is a great way to promote your business and help drive sales. It is important that you are actively adding new emails to your list and removing those emails that are no longer interacting with your email content. You want any new emails you add to be contacts interested in your products. The big question of course is… how do you go about getting those interested contacts to give you their email address? Here are a few ideas that we know work:

1. Add a scroll triggered pop-up box to the home page of your website.

A pop-up box on your home page will get noticed. If you wait to have it appear until your prospect has scrolled down, you know that this visitor is engaged and interested in your site.

2. Promote exclusive email offers on your social media.

Give interested prospects a reason for providing their email. Let them know that you have exclusive email offers if they provide their email address and make sure it is linked it to a landing page where they can subscribe.

3. Add a link in your employees email signature to sign up for email promotions

Your sales team may be communicating with lots of prospects that are not on your email list. Make sure that you provide every opportunity for that prospect to opt-in to your mailing list. Ask your employees to add a link to a landing page where prospects can subscribe.

4. Create an offer on your social media that requires an email opt-in to receive.

Promote a great offer through social media that links to a landing page to opt-in prior to receiving the offer.

5. Cross promote with a complimentary business.

Team up with a business that has similar target audiences and agree to cross promote each other. Provide an email opt-in landing page for that cross promotion. Social media is a great way to kick this promotion off.

6. Hold a contest or promotion

Hosting a contest, give-away or special promotion is a great incentive to provide an email addresses. You can use your website and social media to promote the contest. This will not only boost your email list but your social media and site visits. Make sure that your promotion doesn’t end with the contest, give-away or exclusive promo but that you promote the winner too! There is a lot of social sharing that will occur when the winner is announced – you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be organically promoted by your winner and their family and friends.

7. Collect emails at local events you are participating in.

Make sure your event staff is actively asking for prospects email addresses. Not only can they follow up with a “Nice to see you at the show” email but they can add them to your email list.

There are a few things that you can do with your current email list to provide targeted content and increased deliverability.

1. Ask your subscribers what they want to receive from you and how often.

Provide a landing page that lets your current email subscribers select the type of content they want from you and the frequency they receive it. Targeted emails will increase the amount of interaction they receive and a raise your ROI.

2. Stop sending emails to old subscribers that are no longer interested.

Send a final email to an old list asking if they want to re-opt-in, promising that you will removed all contact that do not respond. This feels counterintuitive to do, but will actually improve your email deliverability and increase the success of your email campaigns.

3. Provide interesting and relevant content.

Make sure that what you are sending out is interesting and engaging. Pay attention to your email reports and note the successful emails and the ones that are not that successful. Act on those results. You may have to change your email marketing plan if your prospect are not responding to the content you are providing. Be prepared to do this.
